Red Sox Lock Down Ace Crochet with Massive Extension
The Boston Red Sox have secured their new ace, Garrett Crochet, with a six-year, $170 million extension, beginning in 2026. This lucrative deal, officially announced and detailed by Chris Cotillo and Alex Speier, includes a $4 million signing bonus and a $24 million salary for 2026. Crochet will then earn $28 million annually from 2027 through 2030, followed by $30 million in 2031. The contract also features a potential $15 million club option for 2032, contingent on Crochet avoiding a significant arm injury that sidelines him for 120 days. Additionally, a $2 million assignment bonus is included in the event of a trade, though there is no no-trade protection. Crochet, represented by CAA, has an opt-out clause after the 2030 season, which would be nullified if he experiences a major arm injury before then.
Crochet, who will turn 26 in June, was initially slated for free agency after the 2026 season. This extension, which leaves his 2024 salary at $3.8 million, effectively buys out his final arbitration year and four potential free agent years, considering the opt-out clause. The deal also includes $10 million in escalators based on Cy Young Award finishes. The Red Sox's commitment underscores their confidence in Crochet's long-term potential and solidifies his role as a cornerstone of their pitching staff.
