Jack Flaherty's first experience with the Baltimore Orioles was rocky, marked by a 6.75 ERA over 34 2/3 innings after being traded from the Cardinals in 2023. Despite this, relations between Flaherty and the Orioles remain positive. According to The Athletic’s Will Sammon and Katie Woo, “both sides would be open to a reunion after Flaherty’s bounce-back season.”
Flaherty’s 2020-2022 seasons were marred by injuries, and his 2023 performance was unremarkable, with a 4.43 ERA over 109 2/3 innings before his trade to Baltimore. Seeking to reestablish his value, Flaherty signed a one-year, $14 million contract with the Tigers for the 2024 season. His effort paid off. Flaherty posted a stellar 3.17 ERA over 162 innings with the Tigers and Dodgers. Another trade sent him to the Dodgers, where he played a crucial role in their World Series-winning season, earning a ring with his hometown team.
