As the Texas Rangers continue to rebuild their bullpen, they've set their sights on local talent. According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the team is showing interest in Arlington native Chris Martin. The veteran reliever has indicated that he is “95%” certain that the 2025 season will be his last, and he is reportedly prioritizing teams closer to his home in Texas. Therefore, a return to the Rangers seems like a logical fit for both sides.
Despite turning 39 in June and approaching what is likely his farewell season, Martin's recent performance suggests he still has plenty to offer. Last season, he posted a 3.45 ERA over 44 1/3 innings with the Boston Red Sox. However, his 2.43 SIERA better reflects his performance level. Martin’s ability to generate grounders, with a 46.3% groundball rate, was hampered by Boston’s subpar infield defense, leading to a .353 BABIP that inflated his ERA.
