The Tampa Bay Rays have reportedly reached a minor league agreement with designated hitter Eloy Jimenez, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN. The deal is expected to include an invite to major league Spring Training.
Jimenez, 28, began his professional career after signing with the Chicago Cubs as an international amateur from the Dominican Republic in 2014. He quickly ascended the ranks of top prospects and was included in a significant trade to the Chicago White Sox, alongside pitcher Dylan Cease, in exchange for pitcher Jose Quintana. During his time with the White Sox, Jimenez continued to shine as a top prospect. Prior to his MLB debut in 2019, the White Sox signed him to a groundbreaking long-term deal worth $43 million over eight seasons, a rare move for a player who had yet to play in the major leagues.
