The Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins have lined up a trade on Christmas Eve that sees left-hander Jovani Moran heading to Boston in exchange for catcher/first baseman Mickey Gasper.
The transaction was first reported by Hunter Noll of Beyond The Monster, and both teams have officially announced the deal. Moran, 27, missed the entire 2024 season due to Tommy John surgery. Prior to his surgery, Moran showed promise with a 2.21 ERA over 40 2/3 innings in 2022, but struggled with a 5.31 ERA in 2023. The Red Sox hope he can return to his earlier form and bolster their bullpen. Gasper, who made his MLB debut in 2024, struggled at the plate but offers versatility, having played both catcher and first base during his career. The Twins see potential in Gasper to improve their lineup and provide depth for the upcoming season.
