The Chicago White Sox have made a move to bolster their catching depth by acquiring Matt Thaiss from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations. Thaiss, who spent the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Angels, brings a wealth of experience to the White Sox roster.
In 2024, Thaiss hit .204 with nine doubles, two home runs, and 16 RBIs over 57 games with the Angels. He was originally selected by the Angels in the first round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Virginia. Over his six-year MLB career, Thaiss has a career slash line of .208/.313/.342 with 23 doubles, 22 homers, and 79 RBIs in 245 games. Thaiss has also shown versatility, appearing in 142 games at catcher, 47 at third base, 31 at first base, one at second base, and one in left field. This flexibility will be a valuable asset for the White Sox as they continue to build a competitive roster.
