Wade Accepts Triple-A Assignment, Rosario Awaits Fate

Tyler Wade has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A El Paso by the San Diego Padres. Despite having the option to decline the assignment and retain his $900,000 salary, Wade has chosen to remain within the Padres organization. This decision suggests a degree of comfort with the team and a willingness to pursue his return to the majors through their system. The Padres had designated Wade and Eguy Rosario for assignment on Opening Day, and while they actively sought a trade partner for Rosario, Wade, with his limited offensive output, was placed on waivers sooner.

Wade, a versatile player capable of playing any position except catcher, spent the entirety of 2024 with the Padres' major league roster. However, his offensive struggles, evidenced by a .217/.285/.239 slash line in 90 games, made him less appealing to other teams. The Padres' acquisition of Jose Iglesias, Yuli Gurriel, and Gavin Sheets, along with Brandon Lockridge's impressive spring training, significantly impacted Wade's path to the majors. While his versatility makes him a potential injury replacement, his immediate future lies in Triple-A, awaiting an opportunity to rejoin the Padres' roster.
